Time has flown since I updated my own blog. I have been busy. My website is being rebuilt and I’m also a blogger for a Japanese magazine in which I write about my daily life in London.
イギリスの人気お笑い芸人（コメディアンより、こっちの方がしっくりくるよね？）ラッセル・ブランドが資本主義と民主制について本を出し、それについてガーディアンのライヴイベントで語っているのですが、こんなにパワフルで、世界のことをよく知っている日本の芸人さんをテレビで見たことありません。（北野武さんくらいかなとご指摘受けましたが）
I watched a video in which Russell Brand talked about capitalism and democracy. He is such a powerful guy!!
ほんの少しだけ抜粋。
RB：デモクラシーとは、「アーサー王物語」に出てくる輝かしい剣と同じなのだ。（岩に刺さった剣を誰もが簡単には取れない。しかし一度取れるとそれが次の偉大なことへ繋がる。）今の経済のシステムは自分たちを食い物にしている。変化は可能だ。
司会者：世界が経済的に破綻し始めて以来、人は移民や社会保障を受け取っている、近隣の人達に文句を言って、もっと上にある権力者たちには目を向けもしないようですが、何故そんなことが起きていると思いますか？
RB：人間には恐怖と欲望がある。人は恐怖に対しては動きが速いけど、愛に対しては動きが遅いんだ。誰かからぼったくられて怒るのは正しい。誰かが自分の国に投資に来て、資源を開発し、税金も払わず、社会にも貢献しないから怒るのも正しい。ヴォーダーフォンやアマゾン、スターバックス、こういった企業が侵入者たちなんだよ。
トークの最後にヴィヴィアンが質問者として登場します。
RB：「あなたは誰ですか？」
VW：「私は活動家です。そしてそのことを誇りに思っています。」
類は友を呼びますので、私たちの周りは、会えば必ず最終的には政治の話になります。必ずです。
なので、ヴィヴィアンのファンの方には、彼女の活動家としての動きを絶対にチェックして頂きたいです。そうすれば皆さんも類友の一員になりますからね。

Birds of a feather flock together. When we meet our friends we always happen to talk about politics in the end, ALWAYS. Vivienne’s fans all over the world MUST check her activism if they want to be one of the flock.

友人のマイクとジェブは、自分たちで敷地内の川の水を使って電気を引いて、生活しています。生活するには十分な量を引けるのです。日本での自分の生活を振り返ってみると、日本はエネルギー使い過ぎだなと思います。（装苑の12月号を読んで下さい。連載で記事を書いています。）
Our friends Mike&Jeb in Wales have their own electrical system and supply through using river water. They have enough electricity for their daily life. I was looking back on my life in Japan and I think that Japan is using energy too much.
とりあえず、地球規模で考え、足元から行動しましょう。
Anyway, think globally, act locally.
自分が生まれ育った国以外に住めば、誰しもが一度は経験するであろう「こうなっとんかい！」
という物や習慣を、少しだけ挙げてみようと思います。
If you live in overseas you will come across the moment of “Bloody hell! This is so different from my country!”
So, I will pick up on some of the differences on my blog today. Hope you can see some Japan 😉
まずは書籍の大きさ。英語の本は文庫本でもこの厚みと大きさ。持ち歩きにくいでしょうよ。
Start off with the size of a paperback.You can see that Japanese paperbacks are very small and easy to carry.
日本の牛乳は紙パック。こちらボトルに入って単位はパイント。
Milk in Japan is in a paper box and England now uses plastic.

変な食べ物の日英代表選手、納豆とマーマイト。
マーマイトはビールの酵母なのですが、塩気が強く、臭いも独特です。
一般的にバターを塗ったトーストにつけたり、スープの隠し味に使われます。
Representatives of weird food, Natto from Japan and Marmite from UK.
Natto is fermented soya, very sticky and smells bad. Usually eaten with rice.
When I was in Japan I was eating it every single day, I love it!

イギリスでは一般的にほうれん草は葉っぱだけしか食べないらしい。私は根が一番好きですが。
Japanese eat all the spinach from the roots to the leaves. Actually I love eating the roots the most,
such a sweet and great texture when you chew.
残った食べ物にはお皿ごとすぐにラップをする日本ですが、こちらでは
お皿の上にさらにお皿を乗せて蓋をし、それでも片付かない場合はフードコンテナに入れます。
合理的かつエコロジーです！
In Japan we always use wrap for leftover meals but they are really a waste.
So I was so impressed by this technique, using a plate as a lid!
Very reasonable and ecological.
環境などに配慮されていることでも人気な日本のモデルさんが、
自身のデトックスのために全身をラップで巻いた写真をSNSに載せていたのをネットで見ましたが、
この方は健全な世界と健康な体がどう繋がっているのか分かっていらっしゃらないのねと思ったのでした。
そのラップを作るのには、石油が使われるわけで、その石油って有限資源ですよ！
欧米では今、化石燃料を使わないようにしようと人々が動いております。
自身がデトックスできても、石油は枯渇状態になりますよ。
I was so shocked looking at a photo of a Japanese famous model who is known for
being eco-conscious who wrapped her whole body with food wraps for her body treatment.
I thought she doesn’t know the relationship between healthy world and healthy body.
Lots of oil is used for making wrapping film and oil is finite, therefore people all over the world
are now making movements to stop using fossil fuels.
Oil is going to be sucked up for her body detox.
話は反れましたが、日英色々違いはありますが、私はそれなりに順応しております。
There are some differences between England and Japan but I have been adapting myself into the differences.
ウエストウッドという姓を調べておりましたところ、それが土地由来の名前だと分かり、早速ロンドンから西に車で2時間、バースの近くにあるウエストウッド村へ行ってきました。
We had been looking up the origin of our surname “Westwood” and found it’s a locational surname,so we drove up to the Westwood village close to Bath.
まず初めは、ウエストウッド村への入り口となる道、ウエストウッドロードが私たちを村へと導いてくれます。
At the beginning of exploring Westwood, we took the Westwood road to the entrance of the Village.
ウエストウッド村で、既に王様気分のベン。通りを歩く人を見るたびに、「諸君！」と叫ぶ始末。
Ben was screaming “My people, this is my road! ” every time he saw people on the Westwood road as if he were a king.
村の中にはかわいいお屋敷がたくさんありました。バースの近くだけあって、どのお家もバース色の石が使われています。イギリスでは、土地それぞれで採れる石を使って家を建てているので、行く場所によって石の種類、家の色が違うのです。
Bath is nearby, so there were lots of pretty houses built in the same stone as Bath is.
ウエストウッド村の未来のために、何の願いを込めたらいいのか考えている風のベン。
Ben is (sort of) making a wish for Westwood.
ウエストウッド村の教区の席に空きが出ましたの貼紙を見て、「ここに僕がいるじゃないか！」だって。
Ben looked at the paper and screamed “I’m here! You don’t need to look for anyone! ”
とりあえず、ウエストウッドマナーハウスに行こうよ！Anyway, shall we go to the Westwood manor house?
石造りの門に星のマークを見つけました。やっぱりここはベンのルーツだわ。
I found a three star sign carved on a gate. This is Ben’s root indeed.

ダイニングへ招待してくれるキングベン。King Ben invited people to the dining room.
こちらは寝室です。Here is a bedroom.
音楽室。この古いチェンバロに感激して、今も仲良くしている私のピアノの恩師に写真を送りました。
The Music room, I was so impressed by these old harpsichords and sent the photos to my piano instructor in Japan.
庭への入り口とそこでもとりあえずキングを保つベン。The entrance of the garden and Ben is still being a king.
そしてウエストウッド教会へも行きました。And we went to the Westwood church.
ウエストウッド幼稚園。Westwood nursery.
とりあえずありとあらゆるウエストウッド。We took lots of photos everywhere we found a sign of “Westwood”.
ローワーウエストウッドがあるので、もちろんアッパーもあります。
アッパークラスになりきるベン。Ben is now being an upper class Westwood.
ウエストウッドクラブの喫煙エリアで喫煙してみるベン。Ben smoking in the smoking area at the Westwood club.
ウエストウッドソーシャルクラブで反ソーシャルになるベン。Ben being antisocial at the Westwood social club.
かなりオシャレに見えました、この道しるべ。I liked this sign post.
村に一つだけあったB&B。ここにウエストウッド家全員宿泊したら、B&Bのオーナーさんは名前の確認するの大変だろうな〜と、想像すると笑いが止まりませんでした。
The B&B in the village. I couldn’t stop laughing thinking about the whole Westwood family staying there. The owner must have a hard time to check all our names.
大の大人二人が名前を見つけただけでこんなにはしゃいで、姪っ子ちゃん達がいたら間違いなく恥ずかしがられたに違いありません。しかし、いつかみんなでこの地に集合してみるのもいいんじゃないでしょうか。
If our nieces had been there with us they might have been embarrassed looking at us being completely excited. But why don’t we have a get together there someday?? 😉
